The Dallas office of Gensler will lead the design of the new $130 million Victory House of Blues nightclub in Dallas.

Bergman Walls & Associates has been selected to design the new Pinnacle Entertainment Casino in Lake Charles, LA. The $350 million project includes construction of two buildings housing 1,000 guestrooms.

Kernodle Poellot Group, Inc. of Austin, TX is in charge of project concept and master planning for the Indigo Earth Entertainment Center in Houston, which includes retail, an aquarium, an IMAX and hotel.

Neenah, WI architecture firm Miller Wagner Coenen/McMahon has been selected to convert the former Vulcan Hydro Plant in Appleton, WI into the 152-seat J Restaurant.


The Princeton City School District of Cincinnati has hired GBBN Architects, also of Cincinnati, to renovate and design additions to its schools.

HOK’s Tampa office has been hired to design the new $20 million Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Florida.

The FWA Group of Charlotte will design the new University of North Carolina – Charlotte Student Union. The $31.5 million project involves construction of a three-story 186,000 sf building.

A new research institute for the University of Alabama is in the design development stage. CUH2A will design and engineer the school’s new 12-story, $70 million Interdisciplinary Biobuilding Shell.

The Prairie School of Racine, Wisconsin, has selected Taliesin Associated Architects of Spring Green, WI, and Zimmerman Design Group of Milwaukee, WI, to design a new $12 million Sports Complex.

Robert A.M. Stern Inc. of Rochester, New York, is designing a new 80,000 sf facility for the University of Michigan Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy.

Hammel Green + Abrahamson of Minneapolis will design the new 120,000 sf University of Minnesota Teaching and Technology Center in Minneapolis. On the University’s St. Paul campus, Perkins & Will’s Minneapolis office has been selected to design a new $22 million classroom building.

Brooklyn, New York’s Saint Joseph’s College has selected architects Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer Associates of New York City to design its new Student Center.

Central Michigan University has selected Hobbs + Black Associates of Lansing, Michigan, as architects for its new $40 million Events Center.

Shepley, Bullfinch, Richardson & Abbott of Boston, Massachusetts, will design a new Vivarium Facility for Virginia Tech. The 25,000 sf facility will contain quarantine rooms, animal holding rooms, laboratory and surgery areas, and more. The firm has also been selected to design a new 47,000 sf Biology Building for the campus. Virginia Tech is also planning a new Engineering Facility; Burt Hill Kosar Rittelmann of Washington, DC, will design.

New York’s Davis Brody Bond is designing phase one of a new 240-unit dormitory project for Tulane University in New Orleans, LA.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham is building two Bio Medical Research Centers. CUH2A of Princeton, NJ, will design and engineer both—a $25 million Vivarium Research facility and a three-phase, $52 million classroom and laboratory building.

A new Business School for California State University at San Marcos is in the working drawings stage. AC Martin Partners of Los Angeles is designing the $25 million building.

In Chapel Hill, North Carolina, a new Student Housing at Baity Hill apartment complex is nearing groundbreaking. The nine building, 400,000 sf project will contain 397 units; J. Davis Architects of Raleigh and Michael Hining Architects of Chapel Hill are architects.

Esherick Homsey Dodge & Davis of San Francisco is designing a new $35 million Library building for California State University Monterey Bay.

Moody Nolan of Columbus, Ohio, has been selected to design a new $93 million Student Union building for Ohio State University.

Tacoma, Washington’s Pierce College has chosen Masini Sanford Gabrielse & Schoenfeldt of Olympia, WA, with Opsis Architects of Portland, OR, to design a new Communication Arts & Allied Health Building as well as a new Science and Technology Center. The combined value of the projects is $36 million.

Federal/State/### The U.S. National Park Service is designing and building a Heritage Education Campus at Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. The $30 – 50 million dollar project includes restoration to eight buildings plus new exhibit and museum space.

Architects Bernard Johnson Young Inc. of Rockville, Md., are designing two buildings for the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH), a division of the Department of Health & Human Services. The 113,500 sf project will be located in Bethesda, Md.

The National Institutes of Health Research Building in Bethseda, Md, is undergoing a $600 million renovation. RTKL has been awarded the design of phases two and three, both general interior renovations.

The U.S. Navy is adding two new buildings to its Earle Naval Weapons Station Pier facility in Monmouth County, NJ. Staunton & Chow Engineers of New York, NY will design the 36,000 sq. ft. of new space.


Ghafari Associates of Dearborn, MI, has been selected to design and engineer the new Brose North America headquarters building in Auburn Hills, MI. The $26 million office building and industrial laboratory will contain 75,000 sf.

Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution has selected Ellenzweig Associates of Cambridge, MA, to design its new research facility. The $30 million project includes two buildings housing a biogeochemistry research laboratory and a marine research facility.

A new 78,000 sf Center for Functional Nanomaterials at Brookhaven Laboratory in Upton, NY, will be designed by Omaha, Nebraska’s HDR Architecture.


Construction of a new University of California Davis Medical Center is entering phase two. Gordon H. Chong & Partners of Sacramento, CA, is the architect.

Cannon Design of Grand Island, NY, will design and engineer a $100 million addition to the Stony Brook (NY) University Hospital.

NBBJ’s Columbus, Ohio, office will lead the design of a 260,000 sf addition to that city’s Children’s Hospital.

Brigham & Womens Hospital of Boston, MA has selected Cannon Design, also of Boston, to design a new 350,000 sf Center of Advanced Medicine.

HNTB, Milwaukee, WI, will design phase one (197,060 sf) of a proposed 419,400 sf University of Wisconsin-Madison Interdisciplinary Research Complex.

HKS Architects’ Orlando, FL, office has been selected to design Florida’s new $75 million Homestead Hospital.

In Pittsburgh, PA, Astorino has been selected to design a new University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Biotechnology Research Center.

Atlanta, Georgia’s Perkins & Will office has been selected to design a 500,000 sf addition to the Mayo Clinic of Jacksonville, FL.


Harris County, Texas, has selected Bricker Cannady of Houston to design a $35 million renovation of the Harris County Civil Courts Building.

Richard Meier & Partners (Los Angeles,) with Sasaki Associates (Watertown, MA) will design a new 553,000 sf, $192 million San Jose City Hall/Civic Center.

Leo A Daly, Los Angeles, has been chosen to design a new $20 million Westlake Police Station Complex in that city. The 170,000 sf project will include a maintenance building, a two-story police station and a two-story parking garage.

The 30,000 sf Cold Spring Harbor (New York) Library will be designed by Beatty Harvey & Associates of New York City.

HOK’s Culver City, CA, office will design a new $48 million Metro Jail Facility in Los Angeles.

The New York Transit Authority has selected DMJM + Harris of New York City to design a $200 million addition to its Second Avenue Subway Line. The project includes five new subway lines, 19 miles of tunnel, and eight miles of new above-ground track.

The City of Pasadena (CA) has chosen Kramer One of Scottsdale, Arizona, to design its new $1 million Pasadena Shooting Range.


Jones Studio of Phoenix, AZ, will design Scottsdale’s new $7.5 million Loloma Art Museum.

The Nantucket (MA) Historical Association has selected A Point Design of Charlestown, MA, to design a new $9 million addition to the Nantucket Museum Center.

Baltimore, Maryland’s new Center for Aquatic Life & Conservation will be designed by Hord Coplan Nacht.

I.M. Pei with the Pei Partnership, both of New York City, and V.I.P. Architectural Structures of Syracuse, NY, will design a new East Wing for the Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin’s, new 110,000 sf Harley Davidson Motorcycle Museum will be designed by Hammel, Green & Abrahamson and Pentagram Architectural Service of New York City. The $30 million project includes exhibit space, retail and a 300-seat restaurant.

The Delaware Aerospace Education Foundation has selected Joseph T. Farina Architect to design all phases of its new museum in Smyrna.


BOKA Powell Architects of Addison, TX, are designing two new 2,500 seat NASCAR-quality speedways in Texas: The North Texas Motor Speedway in Wilbarger County, and the Hill County Motor Speedway in Hill County.

Continental Real Estate of Columbus, OH, is developing a 25-acre site owned by the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates in Pittsburgh. The new complex will be designed by Strada Architecture, Pittsburgh.

HKS has been selected to design a new $20 million expansion of The Diamond Baseball Stadium in Richmond, VA, home of the AAA Richmond Braves.
