The Indiana Zoo has two renovations/additions planned: the first, a new $10 million Dolphin Facility Project to be designed by Peckham Guyton Albers and Viets of St. Louis, Mo., and a $3.5 million renovation of the existing aquarium, by Ratio Architects, Inc. of Indianapolis.
And one of the leaders in aquariums, Esherick Homsey Dodge & Davis, has been chosen to design the new $20 million Tongass Coast Aquarium at Ketchikan Gateway, Alaska. Estimates are for a 27,600 sf, one-story building on a single-acre site.
Aquariumemphis is a conversion of “the pyramid” former sports arena into an aquarium, to be designed by a partnership of local firm Archimania and Boston’s Chermayeff, Sollogub & Poole, Inc.
A $50 million alteration at the Jesuit-led University of San Francisco is being designed by 450 Architects of San Francisco.
Gensler is designer for the first phase of a $17 million science and technology building at Texas A & M University at Texarkana.

Texas Southern University is building a new $30 million, 148,000 sf, three-story science building at its Houston campus. Architect is 3DI/International, also of Houston.
A six-story, 330,000 sf microbial sciences building at the University of Wisconsin-Madison will have two wings, an atrium, four levels of underground parking and a design that creates a public plaza with an existing campus hall. The $104 million project is being designed by Plunkett Raysich Architects of Milwaukee.
George Mason University’s (Va.) new 100,000 sf building for art and visual technology has Ayers Saint Gross as architect.
A $48 million building project at the City College of San Francisco includes historic renovation of about 70,000 sf of existing space. The five-story project will create 106,000 sf of class, lab, library and administrative space along with one level of underground parking. Architect: Kendall Young & Associates.
Cornell University’s $22 million College of Ecology is a five-story, 76,000 sf project to be designed by Arquitectonica International.
DMJM+HARRIS is designer for the $52 million University of Nevada Las Vegas student recreation center, which includes two pools, a juice bar, weight room, climbing wall and thankfully, a sauna.
Lohan Caprile Goettsch Architects has won the assignment to design India’s first Four Seasons Hotel and Resort. The Mumbai (formerly Bombay) hotel will be the country’s only five-star hotel. Scheduled for completion in 2006, the 200,000-square-foot tower will offer 164 guest rooms and 36 apartments. The firm recently designed the one-million sf Grand Hyatt Mumbai.
Pfizer, Inc. is planning a $400 million expansion at its Morris Plains, N.J. site to be designed by Hillier. Initial plans call for a 204,000 sf research and development expansion as well as an 895-car garage.
BKA Architects, Inc. is designing a renovation/expansion for Boston Scientific’s laboratories in Marlborough, Mass. The $250 million project includes adding 500,000 sf, and renovating 1-200,000 sf in three existing buildings.
The city of Calabasas, Calif. has plans for a new city hall and library, with an estimated budget of $20-37 million. Designer is Fields & Devereaux Architects & Engineers of Los Angeles.
The city of Phoenix’s plan for the new Adobe Mountain Regional Branch Library has a small $4.3 million budget. But specs for the 25,000 sf one-story building call for green design to include “heat island mitigation” construction and web-based energy management systems. Architect is William P. Bruder Architects.
The new West Point Academy Library is an estimated $60 million project of 150,000 sf. The seven stories include one underground floor. Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer Associates is architect.
Phase one of the 52,500 sf, four-story Palm Beach Atlantic University Library has a $10.5 million estimated budget, with design by Leo A Daly. But another $8 million is budgeted for the renovation of a 275,000 sf historic octogon-shaped building to serve as an attached reading room.
In Lakewood, Ohio, the city has plans for a $10 million alteration/addition to its public library that includes 98,000 sf over three stories. New construction will nearly double the existing space. Spice Costantino Architects, Inc. of Cleveland is designer.
The South Carolina State University Whittaker Library is undergoing alteration/expansion, estimated at more than $10 million. Architect is Craig Gaulden & Davis.
A $58 million expansion at East Alabama medical Center in Opelika, Ala., will be designed by Earl Swensson Associates of Nashville. Plans include a new three-story surgery center. The firm is also architect for a $60+ million addition at Baptist Memorial in Southhaven, Miss.
The new $93 million Wellstar/Kennestone patient care tower in Marietta, Ga., has Odell Associates, Inc. of Charlotte, N.C. as architect. The 775,000 sf, seven story tower includes 140 acute-care beds.
Ascension Group Architects of will design a new $100 million hospital in Denton, Texas for Presbyterian Hospital. Plans show two new medical office buildings, estimated at $11.5 million.
Anshen & Allen Architects is masterplanning a two-building patient tower and medical office building for Pomerado Hospital in Poway, California. The firm is also architect for the Palomar Medical Center in Escondido. Plans there are to demolish the existing 300-bed hospital and build a new tower.
Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas is planning a new $70 million patient tower, power plant and parking, to be designed by HKS Inc.
The new $98 million Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital in Katy, Texas, is being masterplanned by Watkins Hamilton Ross of Houston.
A new $125 million, 500,000 sf women’s and infants’ hospital at the University of Alabama-Birmingham is being designed by Perkins & Will. The firm is also designing a companion medical professional building with about 125,000 sf of office/administrative space.
The new Oakdale, Calif. hospital is a $60 million, two-building project designed by Moon Mayoras Architects of San Diego.
Masterplanning for alterations at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden is being done by EDAW, Inc.
The new Institute of American Indian Arts in Sante Fe is being designed by local firm Mazria Riskin Odems, Inc. The $30 million budget calls for a one-story building with 130,000 sf to include museum, convention and community centers.
Paging Chuck Norris: the Texas Rangers Hall of Fame in Waco has planned an 80,000 sf expansion with design by Carter & Burgess, Inc. of Dallas. Plans include a museum, library and offices.
Ann Beha Architects is architect for the $7 million addition at the Canajoharie Library and Art Gallery in New York. The new arts facility is planned to showcase the museum’s collection of Bartlett Arkell.
The $100 million Motor Sports Racetrack in Mississippi’s casino land (Tunica) is sited on 500+ acres and will include a one-mile oval track, a drag strip, 60,000 seats, 50 suites and its own fire department. Architect is Allen & Hoshall of Memphis.
A $23 million basketball/multi-use sports center at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay includes plans to remodel 22,000 sf and add 120,000 sf more, expanding the seats to 4,000. Venture Architects of Milwaukee is designer.
Piedmont Equestrian Park in Cherryville, N.C. is a $10 million project designed by Bullock Smith & Partners of Nashville. The indoor arena will include seating for 2,000 and is sited on 80 acres.
The new $8 million ticket booth for the Times Square Amphitheater will be designed by Perkins Eastman Architects.
The new $70 million Chicago Soccer Stadium will be designed by Rossetti Associates. Arena plans include 20,000+ seats, convention center, training and therapy areas and club offices.
Masterplans for the new $100 million Carnival Cruise Lines complex at Brooklyn’s Pier 7 include a mention of “enhanced security measures.” Architect is Bermello Ajamil & Partners of Miami, Fla.
The new Colorado Rapids Soccer Stadium in Denver is described as a 20,000 seat multi-use complex, to be designed by HOK Sport+Venue+ Event.
Jova Daniels Busby, Inc. of Atlanta will be architect for a $40 million expansion at the Bear’s Bryant Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. HOK is initial designer to add 9,000 seats, 27 skyboxes and club seating.
