Encouraging signs amid dizzying change.

There’s no denying it: the pace of change is accelerating. We’re all familiar with Moore’s Law, but it’s not just the speed of semiconductor units that’s increasing; the rate of change in life and society is speeding up as well. From methods and means of communication to the rate of innovation; everything, it seems, is getting faster. Everything, that is, except your daily commute.

According to our annual Sustainability Survey, those driving to work alone consistently make up more than half of all respondents. But there are encouraging signs. Of all responses to the question “How do you most often get to work?”, “Drive alone in a single occupancy vehicle” has seen the most dramatic reduction, while respondents bicycling to work or telecommuting have steadily increased.
