UC’s Virginia Russell, associate professor of architecture, explains some upcoming green roof experiments at the university — experiments that will look at using different materials (like recycled shredded tires, crushed glass or crushed bricks) as growing “soil.”
It’s not the first time Russell has led a green roof project. She is one of the first 20 people in the world to receive the designation of Accredited Green Roof Professional (GRP) from the industry association, Green Roofs for Healthy Cities. She has been teaching green roof classes at UC for several years.
